The Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey is a great association to get your kids involved with. They have multiple teams of varying skill levels. Teams can enjoy practicing on the beautiful ice pads of the Sylvan Lake Multi-Plex and face-off in house or competitive league hockey tournaments. There are teams ranging from Dynamite to midget and varying skill levels throughout. Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey also has female teams so that girls can show their skills as well.
In the winter, Sylvan Lake’s outdoor rinks, ponds, and on the lake host a variety of community event on the ice where players of all skill levels can come together and play a friendly game of great Canadian hockey. In 2009, the first year of the pond hockey tournaments, 34 teams came out to play in weather that at its best was -22. Though this season had to cancel pond hockey, rest assured that it will be back in full swing next year. Sylvan Lake residents can take advantage of our cold winters by playing longer hockey seasons than most other provinces.
Sylvan Lake also has various hockey camps. Over the winter holidays or weekends throughout the school year, Sylvan Lake residents can learn to play hockey by joining a camp. They will learn shooting skills, skating techniques, and be able to participate in competitions and tournaments to show off newly acquired skills.
Hockey camps are a great way to keep the kids active and engaged during the winter months. Practices are held in the Multi-Plex which allows everyone to enjoy winter without worrying about frostbite from the cold wind outside.
Hockey schools in Sylvan Lake are geared towards children, teens and young adults but, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a hockey league as an adult. There are leagues and teams open to players of all ages.
